John Condron is credentialed as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) by the International Association of Trauma Professionals.
John is one of only eleven Idaho therapists acknowledged as nationally certified by the creators of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. Many therapists claim to be “trained” in TF-CBT based on completion of a single eight-hour online class, but this is actually only the first step in a much longer training process.
John is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, another evidence-based treatment for PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. EMDR, which does not necessarily involve eye movement, assists in the processing of traumatic memories, resulting in enhanced integration – and a more adaptive perspective on the traumatic material. The use of EMDR has been shown to eliminate the need for some of the more difficult abreactive work (i.e., reliving the trauma over and over) often associated with other treatments like prolonged exposure therapy, which John considers to be tantamount to torture.
Finally, John is a Fellow of the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists. Hypnotherapy is probably the oldest approach to the treatment of trauma, predating by hundreds of years the invention of the term “hypnosis” in 1841. Though hypnotherapy is not considered an evidence-based treatment for trauma, research suggests that hypnosis can be a valuable adjunct to cognitive behavior therapy, specifically including the treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
